This might come as a surprise to a lot of people out there fed up with AT&T and dying to jump ships when the iPhone finally gets released on big red. But there are plenty of really good reasons as to why you shouldn’t. At least think twice before taking the plunge.
1. No simultaneous use of data and voice
(a bigger deal than one would think). Imagine being on the phone and trying to access the map to find out where you are. Or checking an email you’re expecting from the person you’re on hold with. You can’t do those w/ Verizon’s old CDMA technology.
2. Can’t use your phone outside of the country.
No one uses decades old CDMA technology outside of USA.
3. iPhone 5.
It’s due this summer. Which means only a few months right after you sign the contract for a last gen iPhone with top money, you’ll be stuck in a odd contract cycle. Which brings me to the biggest reason why you might not want to a verizon iPhone right now…
4. Verizon will lock you on for a 20 long months,
(instead of the usual 12 - in case of AT&T iPhone 4 it was only 6) before you can upgrade to a newer model. So unlike the AT&T users, who can get a new iPhone pretty much every year, Verizon customers will have to endure outdated tech for 20 months.
There are other issues - though may not to be as important to some:
a) the antenna problem could still very well persist since its essentially the same iPhone w/ a CDMA chip rather than a redesign.
b) It won’t run on Verizon’s new faster 4G/LTE network and 3G on a CDMA network is actually way slower than the one on GSM network (with HSPA).
c) Verizon is notorious for having the most expensive data plans and then nickle and dimming its customer on top of that with arguably the most horrible customer service in the industry.
The only thing Verizon offers is better call quality (meaning you can actually hear the person on the other side and not drop calls every other minute). Now if you live in an area where this has been major problem with AT&T (think densly populated metros like NY, SF) this might be worth it. Then again who actually talks on the phone these days. It’s all about data, not voice.
Just for the record: I hate AT&T. And I hate Verizon. Two of the worse companies ever built on this soil. (Hate is not a strong enough word - loath may be?) But I digress… That’s a story for another day.

Windows Phone 7 Interface: Microsoft Has Out-Appled Apple
“I’m sorry, Cupertino, but Microsoft has nailed it. Windows Phone 7 feels like an iPhone from the future. The UI has the simplicity and elegance of Apple’s industrial design, while the iPhone’s UI still feels like a colorized Palm Pilot….”

How many oranges does it take to power an iPhone?
This video sums of so many of my obsessions* - hard to believe someone actually made it.
